Tera-Tom here!  Almost everyone has played the board game Monopoly.  Is your vendor trying to play data warehouse Monopoly?

The salesperson starts the Monopoly game by rolling into your office, and telling you that their new hardware is twice as fast as the old system.

It is your turn to move next, and that move is to try and balance yourself as they reveal the price.

It is the salesperson’s turn to move next and they reiterate how important it is to have only one centralized data warehouse.  Theirs!

If you mess up your turn and commit to this philosophy there is no “Get out of Jail Free” card, but the data warehouse vendor passes Go and collects millions for the upgrade or purchase, and now they have a monopoly on your business.

Well, bad news for the vendor.  It is a buyers’ market and you don’t have to pay for Park Place when you can get great performance on Baltic Avenue.  The time is now to quit landing on CHANCE?

One of the keys to winning at Monopoly is to understand how to purchase a versatile set of properties.  The properties of today’s systems is that they all use parallel processing.  Some are further designed to be row-based while others utilize a columnar architecture, while even others specialize in in-memory solutions.  There are even powerful, but relatively free systems called Hadoop, and every vendor is desperate for your business.

Control the game of Monopoly and become the banker!  Just understand the power of software.  Get enterprise software that monopolizes every system.  Software that enhances every system by showing users the tables and their relationships, and then allows developers and business users to point-and-click and have the SQL built automatically.  Software that makes each system hundreds of times more powerful, and that gives you the flexibility to implement what you want when you want.

Let me give you one piece of advice that is guaranteed to control the dice.  Never query with software that comes from the vendor that sold you the platform!  It only works on their system, has limited capabilities, and will cause you to lose the Monopoly game because they have you tied in.  They give it away for free so they can place hotels on your property.

The next time your data warehouse vendor asks you to play Monopoly, give me a call and we’ll play, “The Price is Right!’

I provide the best Enterprise desktop software the world has ever known.  So far this year we are batting 1000.  Every potential partner, vendor and customer who has seen the Nexus demo has immediately engaged.  It’s your move!

Sincerely,

Tom
