Government Agency Using Teradata Signs 27‑Month Contract for Nexus
Signed, Sealed, and Delivered for 27 Months
“A verbal contract isn’t worth the paper it’s written on.”
– Samuel Goldwyn, Hollywood producer
Fortunately, this agreement is on paper, and the ink is dry. A government agency that runs its enterprise data warehouse on Teradata has signed a 27-month contract for Nexus Query Chameleon. The deal covers 3,000 users across the agency, includes the Nexus Server, and runs through December 2028.
This was not a handshake deal written in disappearing ink. The agency tested Nexus for most of a year before putting pen to paper, and a government agency doesn’t sign on the dotted line for 27 months unless the software has already proven itself on every page.
After a one-hour demo, they didn’t mince words: “I can see why Nexus took 23 years to develop, and it’s hard to believe you got this much done.”
Life after Teradata SQL Assistant
“The report of my death was an exaggeration.”
– Mark Twain, 1897
For Teradata SQL Assistant, the reports were no exaggeration. Teradata no longer supports it, and the tool Teradata users loved for years has been living on borrowed time. Its obituary is written, and users are left without a plan for the afterlife, forever on a Twain to nowhere.
The agency also had Teradata Studio, Teradata’s official replacement, but its users liked it even less than SQL Assistant. Studio was supposed to be the heir to the throne, but nobody was ready to crown it. The agency faced the same choice every Teradata shop faces today: keep limping along on a tool with one foot in the grave, push everyone onto a tool they didn’t like, or find something better. They chose Nexus, and that is no tall tale because it hit the Mark!
From 150 Users to 3,000
“That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind.”
– Neil Armstrong, July 20, 1969
The agency’s mission started with a small step: a pilot group of about 150 users. Our team worked with them like mission control, handling every bug report and a long list of feature requests. Many of those requests are now part of Nexus for every customer, so the whole Nexus universe benefited from the flight.
In August 2026, the agency made its giant leap and launched Nexus to all 3,000 users. A month later, the 27-month contract was signed. Houston, we have no problems because our users are over the moon.
Why Nexus Fits a Teradata Shop
“I suppose it is tempting, if the only tool you have is a hammer, to treat everything as if it were a nail.”
– Abraham Maslow, 1966
Most vendor query tools are hammers, and they treat every database like their own nail. The agency runs more than Teradata. Oracle and Databricks are also part of its daily work, and Teradata Studio only serves Teradata. Nexus is the whole toolbox. It works the same way across all of them because, to Nexus, all databases are created equal.
Nexus hit the nail on the head from day one:
One query tool for every system: Teradata, Oracle, Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery, SQL Server, DB2, Redshift, Azure Synapse, Yellowbrick, Vertica, Greenplum, MySQL, Postgres, Netezza, Sybase, MongoDB, Hadoop, Excel, DuckDB, and more, all in one window.
Cache Tree: search every connected system at once for a table or column name.
Here are the features that pounded the deal home.
Migrate Between All Systems
“Toto, I’ve a feeling we’re not in Kansas anymore.”
– Dorothy, The Wizard of Oz, 1939
When data leaves Teradata for the cloud, it can feel like a tornado just picked up the house. Nexus makes the trip as easy as following the yellow brick road. Check the tables, pick any target, and click Execute. Nexus builds the target tables, pairs the source vendor’s export utility with the target vendor’s load utility, and moves the data at full speed.
Teradata to Snowflake, Oracle to BigQuery, Databricks back to Teradata: Nexus migrates between every system it connects to. When the job is done, click your heels three times, because there’s no place like Nexus.
Imagine the research and development required to ensure that all systems automatically migrate between any two systems, including Snowflake, Databricks, Redshift, Azure, BigQuery, Teradata, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, Netezza, Greenplum, Yellowbrick, Postgres, MySQL, MariaDB, and Vertica. That is what Kansas might call the Toto Experience.
Super Join Builder: Federation Across All Systems
“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”
– Michael Jordan
The Super Join Builder is the ultimate team player. It brings tables from Teradata, Snowflake, BigQuery, Databricks, and more onto the same court and joins them in a single query. Check the columns you want, and Nexus writes the SQL, passes the data to a hub, and joins it there. It’s a slam dunk without writing a single line of SQL.
Want to change the play? Pick a different hub, such as your PC or a Nexus Server, and Nexus rewrites the SQL for you. That’s a full-court press on federation, and no other query tool is in the same league.
Some data is as small as Muggsy Bogues and other data is as big as Yao Ming, so allowing the user to decide where to process a federated join, and having Nexus instantly convert the tables and load utilities, is absolutely brilliant, and that is no Bull.
Nexus is so intelligent that you can make your PC the hub: each table is queried separately, brought back to your PC, and then Nexus joins it in the background using your PC’s CPU and memory, which is the fastest break you might ever see.
Cloud Drop
“Every cloud has a silver lining.”
– Old proverb
With Nexus, every cloud has a data lining. Drag any query result into AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or local storage, and it lands as a CSV, JSON, Parquet, Excel, or text file. The forecast is clear: Nexus shows your cloud buckets like databases and your files like tables.
That means you can query a file in the cloud, join it to a Teradata table, and never get caught in a storm of downloads and uploads. Cloud Drop puts your data on cloud nine.
Users can also use the Super Join Builder to join database tables across any system with every flat file type across all clouds. Imagine joining 20 tables across 20 systems, with flat files across every cloud, and finding gold, while saving a lot of silver.
Nexus even allows users to drag flat files directly from their desktop to any cloud by dropping them into the main query window. Because you can query them like database tables, Nexus will never rain on your parade, and even the sky is not the limit.
GitHub Integration
“…leave the past to history, especially as I propose to write that history myself.”
– Winston Churchill, House of Commons, 1948
Winston Churchill wrote history, but with Nexus and GitHub, you can rewrite yours! Push, pull, and manage SQL files directly between Nexus and GitHub, where every change becomes part of your history. Click a .sql file in your repository, and Nexus opens it as a query, ready to run on any database.
No more pulling your hair out looking for yesterday’s SQL, pushing your luck with outdated copies, or fighting a losing battle over who changed what. Your team can commit to one source of truth, branch out with new ideas, and merge forces when the code is ready. If a change goes wrong, you don’t have to surrender. Just retreat to a previous version and prepare your comeback.
Churchill famously declared, “We shall fight on the beaches,” but Nexus users can take the battle to their repositories.
We shall push on the beaches, we shall pull on the landing grounds, we shall merge in the fields and in the streets, we shall never surrender our SQL!
Federated Notebooks
“Variety’s the very spice of life, that gives it all its flavor.”
– William Cowper, 1785
Most notebooks are one-trick ponies, serving everything from the same kitchen. Snowflake Notebooks work with Snowflake, and Databricks Notebooks are built around Databricks. But Nexus Federated Notebooks offer an all-you-can-eat buffet of databases, programming languages, and cloud files. Start with a SQL cell querying Teradata, stir in some Oracle, sprinkle in Snowflake, and season the results with data from CSV, JSON, Parquet, or Excel files stored on AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud. Then let Python mix the ingredients into something extraordinary.
Add Markdown to explain the recipe, or let Nexus serve up beautiful charts, maps, and dashboards automatically. Prefer to be your own chef? Let Python cook up custom visualizations instead. Every cell can bring something different to the table, and Nexus connects them into one delicious workflow. Other notebooks may specialize in a single cuisine, but Nexus gives you the entire international menu.
Why settle for one flavor of data when Nexus lets you have your cake, query it too, and enjoy the whole SQL-morgasbord!
BIcandy: Instant Dashboards and Beautiful Maps
“My mama always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.”
– Forrest Gump, 1994
With Nexus BIcandy, life really is like a box of chocolates, except you get the entire box, and every piece is delicious! Run a SQL query, and Nexus automatically whips up a sweet selection of charts and dashboards without making you break a sweat or lift a finger. Choose from Bar, Column, Doughnut, Pie, Line, Stacked Bar, Stacked Column, Heat Map, Bubble, Scatter, Tree Map, and Area charts, plus geographical Maps and Density Plots. That’s enough eye candy to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth!
Give Nexus a date and an amount, and it serves up dashboards showing trends by year, quarter, month, weekday, and hour. Want to know where the money is coming from? Nexus puts your business on the map, with bubbles showing sales by city. Looking for a bigger piece of the pie? Slice your data with Pie and Doughnut charts. Want to see which products are hot? Turn up the Heat Map. Need to spot relationships? Scatter your results across a plot and watch patterns emerge. And if you can’t see the forest for the trees, a Tree Map might branch out your thinking. There’s no dragging, no dropping, and no separate BI tool to sweet-talk into cooperating.
Forrest Gump said, “Run, Forrest, run!” But with Nexus, just run your query and let BIcandy do the rest. After all, why settle for a single chart when you can have the whole candy store?
More Than 100 Themes
“Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black.”
– Henry Ford, 1922
Most query tools still follow Henry Ford’s assembly line: one size fits all, and any color you want, as long as it’s black! But Nexus decided to paint outside the lines with more than 100 spectacular themes that let users show their true colors. Whether you’re brewing up a Coffee theme, cheering for Ann Arbor Maize and Blue, celebrating Columbus Scarlet and Gray, waving Pittsburgh Black and Gold, or rooting for Tucson Navy and Cardinal, Nexus has your colors covered. Prefer something more scenic? Take a trip through Sedona Red Rock or watch the Northern Lights. If you’re looking for something brighter, Pastel Latte, Caribbean Aqua, and Iris will brighten your day.
And here’s where Nexus really changes its stripes: you can schedule themes by the clock, rotate your favorites every hour, or go light by day and dark by night. Set Pittsburgh Black and Gold to appear at 4:00, and you’ll know it’s almost time to clock out in style. Better yet, Nexus themes aren’t just window dressing. Their carefully coordinated colors make SQL keywords, strings, numbers, and results easier to distinguish, helping you format your data to a T and your models to a theme! Henry Ford put the world on wheels, but Nexus puts your imagination in the driver’s seat. Why settle for black and white when Nexus gives you the entire rainbow—and lets you schedule the pot of gold?
The Nexus Server: Moving Data from Oracle to Teradata
“When you come to a fork in the road, take it.”
– Yogi Berra
When data travels from Oracle to Teradata, it often reaches a fork in the road, only to find both roads lead through the user’s PC. Every row takes the scenic route, creating a traffic jam that can bring migrations to a screeching halt. But Nexus Server gives your data the green light to take the express lane.
Thousands of users can work from their PCs while scheduling queries, migrations, and federated queries to run on a Nexus Server located virtually anywhere. The desktop simply maps out the route, while the server does the heavy hauling, moving data directly between systems without taking a detour through the user’s PC. The government agency’s new 27-month contract includes Nexus Server, which it plans to position between Oracle and Teradata to pave the way for faster migrations and federated queries. Nexus Server can even execute a query against one database and deliver the goods by saving the results directly to another database. Need inexpensive storage?
Nexus Server provides a rest stop for flat files that users can query just like database tables. Whether you’re moving data across databases, joining information from different systems, or scheduling work for thousands of users, Nexus Server keeps everything moving in the right direction. Yogi Berra said to take the fork in the road, but with Nexus Server, you can take either fork, skip the traffic, and still arrive at the right destination!
Why Nexus Is the Greatest Query Tool on the Market
“I am the greatest!”
– Muhammad Ali, 1964
Muhammad Ali didn’t become the greatest by fighting one opponent, and Nexus didn’t become a heavyweight by working with one database. Most database vendors have query tools that fight in only one corner of the ring. Nexus floats like a butterfly across virtually every major database platform and stings like a bee with an arsenal of advanced features. Query, migrate, federate, join, chart, build dashboards, manage GitHub, drag data into the cloud, create Federated Notebooks, and schedule jobs on servers located anywhere in the world. Most query tools know how to throw a SELECT. Nexus delivers the entire combination.
But here’s the real one-two punch. Nexus has spent 23 years sparring with the heavyweights of corporate America. Our typical customer is among the largest organizations in its industry, with enormous databases, thousands of users, and some of the most demanding data challenges imaginable. Our customers have stayed with Nexus for an average of 15 years, and those relationships are the secret behind our innovation. The world’s most sophisticated enterprises don’t ask for ordinary features. They push the boundaries, challenge our developers, and demand capabilities that other tools haven’t even considered. Every challenge becomes another round of innovation. Nexus wasn’t built in a laboratory and sent into the ring. We built it in the ring, round after round, alongside some of the world’s toughest competitors.
Even Microsoft recognized a contender early, licensing Nexus through an OEM agreement from 2009 to 2012. Now, a major government agency has signed a 27-month enterprise agreement covering approximately 3,000 users, including Nexus Server. After extensive testing and collaboration, the agency chose Nexus to help its users work across multiple database platforms. What makes Nexus special isn’t one knockout feature. It’s the combination of 23 years of development, enterprise-driven innovation, extraordinary customer loyalty, and an arsenal of capabilities that few query tools can match.
Muhammad Ali was the greatest because he could beat the best. Nexus became a heavyweight because it spent 23 years learning from the best. And after all those rounds, we’re still coming out swinging!
See Nexus for Yourself
“My sun sets to rise again.”
– Robert Browning
The sun is setting on yesterday’s query tools, and a brighter day is dawning with Nexus! Frustrated with the limitations of Snowsight, Databricks SQL Editor, BigQuery Studio, Teradata Studio, SQL Assistant, SQL Developer, or SQL Server Management Studio? Why juggle half a dozen query tools when one Nexus can rule them all? Nexus connects your entire data universe, giving everyone the same powerful capabilities, regardless of which database they use. No more switching tools, learning different interfaces, or settling for less. Why give every database its own query tool when you can give every user the best?
