Fourteen Years of Development Down the Drain

One of the funniest lines from the movie Animal House was when John Belushi said, “Seven years of college down the drain.”
However, there is a problem with the data that nobody knows about, including me, which caused me to state, “14 years of development down the drain.”
The dream I had been working on for 14 years was the Nexus. The concept was to build a query tool that worked on all systems, could instantly migrate thousands of tables with a few clicks of the mouse, and could join data across systems no matter how many systems or how large the data was.
And how could we go wrong? We instantly converted the table structures and data types between systems and used each vendor’s load utilities to move the data between systems. Sure, there were about 99 problems to solve, but we solved all 99 in 14 years.
However, there was a problem with data that never crossed my mind. When you execute a data load utility from your PC or laptop to move data from one system to another, the data moves from the source system through your PC or laptop onto the target system.
I didn’t spend 14 years of my life being able to move only small amounts of data! Fourteen years of development are down the drain!
So, we went back to the drawing board and devised a brilliant strategy. We built a Nexus Server where customers can load Nexus Server software on any Windows Server or VM and locate that server on-premises, on any cloud, on edge, or the moon. Customers could also have as many Nexus servers as they need.
The brilliance is that any Nexus user can do data movement or federated queries through their PC, but they can schedule it on the Nexus Server. Hence, all data movement moves from the source through the Nexus Server onto the target at blistering speeds.
